All in a Dream
“Well, I dreamed I saw the silver
Space ships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun
There were children crying
And colors flying
All around the chosen ones
All in a dream, all in a dream”
“After the Goldrush”, Neil Young
Everyone dreams. Some remember them well, others not so well. Dreaming is the way our minds process all the strange and mundane events of our lives. Some things become too uncomfortable to deal with directly and our subconscious kicks out dreams that do deal with it. Neal Young’s lyrics from the early 1970’s song, After the Goldrush, could easily be material for a dream interpretation where each item recalled has some sort of significance.
Using Young’s lyrics, each item has an interpretation. The silver spaceships flying can be regarded as thoughts taking flights of fancy on one hand or astral projection. The color yellow indicates higher thought processes, so that reinforces the idea of thoughts taking wings, as it were. The children crying can be a reflection of the dreamer’s self, fighting and resisting the personal evolution that the new thoughts are bringing about. The colors mentioned would be significant as each color has a specific meaning, and the chosen ones would also be a reference back to the dreamer and indicating that their life has been elevated into a higher purpose than what they had been doing in the past.
Maintaining a dream journal is one of the best ways to get in touch with your dreams, and journaling them has been proven to improve your recall of your dreams. Even just cursory notes will aid in recalling dreams much more than memory alone. Dream classes sharpen your understanding of your dreams and allow you to understand just what they mean and how they actually give you guidance in your waking life. There is a wealth of symbols and meanings in your dreams and understanding these is to gain insight into your own life.
